What I learned at Company Man Studios
Being the intern at Company Man Studios is an experience I will never forget.
I came in with few expectations, mainly because I had no idea what to expect. This was going to be my introduction to the design industry. I remember hoping I wouldn’t disappoint and that I could create content the studio could actually use. I didn’t want to waste the opportunity. I wanted to prove myself as the soon-to-be professional I’m striving to be.
Simply put, Company Man is the perfect introduction to the design industry. It’s a one-stop shop for pretty much anything you could desire for your marketing needs. I was exposed to so much more than just my focus of motion graphics. They made it a priority that I learn something from this experience, and that will benefit me to no end moving forward.
If I ever needed help and Google failed me, I knew I could turn to any of the designers around me and ask for help. The team supported me when I experimented with different techniques, and I often found them walking me through a problem and teaching me some of their tricks. It is because of all this support that I was able to stay up-to-date and learn new techniques in After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
At one point, I found myself making a silicone mold in the shape of the Company Man logo for a popsicle. Despite my utter lack of editing experience, I ended up playing with Premiere and creating pieces for a social media campaign. I was also trusted to sit in on various meetings, allowing me to observe the more practical parts of the job.
Overall, this internship was a very fulfilling experience. I was immersed in an amazing learning environment that was extremely welcoming.
Most importantly, I learned that I’m pursuing a job in the right industry. That’s huge in itself.
To Rob, Terry, Edna, Nate, Kevin, Kris, Jessica, and Tim: Thank you so much for this opportunity and taking the time to know me and show me the tricks of the trade. I never thought I’d have so much fun throughout this experience. I’m insanely grateful for all of the advice you shared and the patience you showed me throughout the summer. What I definitely did not expect or take for granted when I walked through those doors was how welcoming everyone is. Company Man has the most positive working environment I’ve ever experienced. You made me that much more excited to graduate in the spring, and I can only hope to land a position in a studio with such an amazing atmosphere moving forward.
